ROUND THIRTEEN :: BAM :: MASH-UP

Created during the mid to late 80’s the BAM duo of Brad Woods and Matt Morgan have been a DJ pair for around four years now. Their mash-up style of mixing ensures you leave your ear waves open to expect anything along the lines of house, electro, breaks, tech house, funk, dubstep, nu-rave, and acid jazz… and as if that weren’t enough, as of late they have been moonlighting as DnB DJ’s hosting regular club nights at Fu and Coherent.
Having supported the likes of Stonebridge, Warp Brothers, Dogzilla, Concord Dawn, Trei and Bulletproof, and after gracing the DJ booths of a large proportion of Auckland’s top night clubs it’s now time for their George FM debut: good times, great music, solid gold!

ROUND TWELVE :: TJ YOUNG :: CLASSIC HOUSE

Fresh legs on the scene TJ has only been DJing for 3 years.
He specialises in trying to bridge the gap between classic house, funk, disco, neo-soul and the modern dance sounds of today.  With a new age mixing style derived from big room dance and hip-hop mixing techniques, TJ is one DJ not afraid to let people hear the mix rather than hiding it.
He aims to make people dance to a fresh new sound, with out the electro
pound…

ROUND ELEVEN :: JAYCEN AMOUR :: ELECTRO

Jaycen has quickly become a favourite amongst clubbers in Auckland this year with his enthusiastic delivery & obvious enjoyment of playing the music he enjoys. Electro/Fidget/Progressive covers his style in general but don't be surprised if the music changes from Hard to Funky to plain old groovy within minutes. Likewise don't be surprised if you hear a cheeky bootleg or some risque vocals in the mix. Let's face it, it's more fun when it's durrrty!  Jaycen has & will be playing some large scale events this year & early next. Summer Nights Boat Party, Slinky Halloween, Ministry of Sound Trance Nation, Oxygen, Vaccine, Stomp!, Chemistry & Summadayze 10.  For events, info & to have a good ole chat:

ROUND TEN :: PAUL WILLS :: CLUB ANTHEMS

Paul has been DJing for around 3 years now. Branching from a strong passion for hip hop in his teens, he found his heavy interest lay in the smooth kicks and a flowing rhythm. Now holding a residency at Lenin Bar on Princess Wharf Friday nights, he spins club house and electro into the wee hours. He can be heard playing anything from deep, smooth house to heavy and dirty electro but his favourite sound is best described as smooth and sexy with a dirty influence. Paul has been heard on George FM a few times and has made guest appearances at Mesh, Flight Lounge and Hush.

ROUND NINE :: MATTY BEACH :: UNDERGROUND HOUSE

Matty took to the decks after falling in love with house music one special night, watching Soane rock a packed Ink Bar.  After 5 years of diggin’ crates and defining his own style, he has become a familiar face in the underground scene. Matty plays a West Coast style of laid back groovin’ beats..  Last year he held down a residency at Orchid on Ponsonby Rd, and more presently co-runs the party Offshore Days with his buddy Jonas Te aho.  Keep your eyes and ears on Matty – he’s funky like your Grandpa’s drawers.

ROUND EIGHT :: DAVE TI :: ELECTRO/MASH UP

Dave started DJing in his hometown of Liverpool UK when he was a young ‘un (15 years old) playing early 90's rave. He moved to NZ in 2005, and after a 2 year break started playing again in Feb 2008, with a residency at the infamous supper club B2B with Mark Swann (where he still plays). He now plays a mash up of multi-genre House, generally aiming for a varied mix of uplifting driving music. Highlights of his DJing career thus far have been playing the last two Deep Hard N Funky's, and the opportunities he’s had to play on George. Says the man himself “I love DJing and music with a huge passion, because I can lose myself in it, also I'm not a good enough dancer to be on the other side of the decks!”.

He’s given us a mix: (God bless him):

ROUND SEVEN :: JIMMY OLSEN :: ELECTRO

Zac Blair is known to some, and hopefully now many,  as DJ Jimmy Olsen. Hailing from the UK, and djing in the south of blighty's bars and clubs since 1999, Jimmy Olsen has always been the "random guy" with his taste in music across the board.  Jimmy relocated to New Zealand in 2005 and now calls Auckland home ... on a good night he can be found slouched over a table at the ‘On The Run’ gas station at the end of Krd with a meat pie in his hand.

2008 saw Jimmy team up with Grafix to form ‘Nude On The Moon’, an audio visual adventure. With video and music, spun, chopped sampled and mixed on the fly, they are a group that never fail to make you twitch. With his boundless enthusiasm and eclectic selections, it's impossible to pin this man down so be prepared for anything and everything!

ROUND SIX :: DOUGLAS RAWSON :: UNDERGROUND HOUSE

Another relative newcomer to the world of DJing, Dougy started learning to DJ whilst in London in Feb 2007. Due to a job bouncing in London’s West End Friday and Saturday nights, Doug was unable to go clubbing with his mates – so he decided to bring music home to himself, purchasing some cheap turntables and a mixer from Ebay for 70 pounds. Most kiwis spend their cash on travel and partying whilst in the UK... Doug spent it on vinyl ☺  You can catch Douglas every Saturday night from 6pm to 8pm  on his radio show "Six Beats Under" on UP FM 107.5  Expect fun, funk, and hip hop infused jackin’ house beats, with plenty of  bouncy basslines and the occasional onslaught of deep and techy rollers.

ROUND FIVE :: MICHAEL GWYTHER :: ELECTRO

A recent addition to the nation’s ranks of DJs, Michael first started mixing early 2008, moving his taste in music from rock and punk, across to house, electro, and breaks. What started out as a hobby / spare time thing, has become more serious, resulting with Michael entering the Junior Jedi DJ Series. Until now, Michael has only played at parties, and in clubs 2 or 3 times - naturally he loves it, and wants to play more regular gigs at clubs and parties.  We can only hope his success with the Jedi Series leads to more of that (bet ya it does! - Editor).

ROUND FOUR :: SHAUN B :: HOUSE / SOUL / FUNK / DISCO

Shaun has been jammin’ and collecting vinyl just shy of 10 years. He started out playing hip hop, r’n’b and funk, securing a resident spot at hip hop club Bass Bar from 2001 to 2004. After a 3 year hiatus from the DJ scene he re-emerged in 2007 playing funk, soul, and house at Pasha and Chapel Bar. These days you can catch him on a regular basis at The Grange in Ponsonby.  Being a lover of all things funky and soulful, expect to hear consistent well thought out sets to keep the fire burning and music talking… for the oldskool and new.

ROUND THREE :: DUNCAN ROBINSON :: CLUB ANTHEMS

Duncan Robinson has been a regular on the club circuit now for just over 3 years after getting into djing through close friends at the end of 2005. His style is best described as being funky, vocal party house with a hint of soul and disco influence thrown in for good measure. Anything infused with piano, saxophone, an uplifting melody and smooth vocals from many of the well known house divas of today can be found amongst Duncan’s vast music collection. A regular on the lineup for many of the Highlife Entertainment events, Duncan has also played at Mint, Hed Kandi, Torque, Slinky and Back In Love, while holding down regular slots at Takapuna’s Mesh Bar and Lenin in the Viaduct. One to watch!

ROUND TWO :: PHILLIP HAEDER :: TECH

Phillip Haeder burst out onto the local dance scene a couple of years ago after his hunger for music began to dominate his life. He began playing out and organizing club nights at some of Auckland’s favorite dance venues, soon finding  himself playing at clubs and events around New Zealand.
His open minded attitude and hunger for cutting edge productions has lead him to develop a unique style and depth with his sets. Expect to hear Jackin tech-house grooves, funky bass lines, and plenty of energy behind the decks. With a keen interest in music production and fourth coming international release, look out for Phillip Haeder in the future.

ROUND ONE :: DANIEL McGLASHAN :: DEEP/UNDERGROUND HOUSE

Daniel McGlashan has been collecting and spinning records for just over six years now, during which time he has managed to define his own unique sound. Quick in the mix and always full of surprises you can expect to hear him play deep, dubby, jackin, minimal, techy, poppin Chicago inspired House Music with smatterings of hip-hop, funk, soul, disco and everything in between. Check out his radio show -Underground Movement on George Fm every Tuesday night from 12-2am (UTC/GMT +12)
